Homework

Homework is a key part of the teaching and learning process.  It reinforces skills and knowledge from the classroom and helps the pupils develop learning skills outside the school environment.

Homework should help pupils to:

  • Revise/learn/practice
  • Test their understanding of a subject
  • Apply knowledge to a varying range of tasks
  • Promote self-confidence
  • Highlight any difficulties they are experiencing

Frequency/Amount of Homework:

  • S1/2 - Approx 15-30 minutes of homework per homework task set
  • S3/4 - Approx 30-60 minutes of homework per subject per week
  • S5/6 - Up to 2 hours per subject per week

All pupils at Knox Academy are provided with Homework Organisers.

We would like to stress the importance of parents supporting the school policy, in showing interest, and in ensuring that homework is done efficiently, thoroughly and regularly.

Parents are asked to encourage pupils who are learning a musical instrument to practise regularly.

Please inform the school if your son/daughter is having problems with homework or meeting deadlines.

Study/learning skills seminars are regular features of our study support for pupils.
