S3/4 Curriculum

Each pupil will have the opportunity to take eight subjects at Standard Grade or equivalent certificated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

In order to ensure a balanced curriculum, there are certain restrictions on course choices. Currently, English and Mathematics are compulsory; all pupils must study at least one science, one social subject and all pupils are encouraged to take a subject with a technology bias and a language. Standard Grade programmes use a wide variety of teaching methods.

Every pupil will undertake a course in Personal and Social Development, which is aimed at increasing the awareness of pupils about life and work outwith the school community. This includes a work experience placement in S4. Pupils will also receive one period of core Physical Education and RME. Currently there is provision for pupils to attend prevocational courses at College.
