NC Acting and Theatre Performance (Musical Theatre)

Course Content

An exciting new course for any pupil who is interested in Musical Theatre, Singing, Dancing or Acting. The new National Certificate in Acting and Performance (Musical Theatre) reflects the demands of the contemporary professional musical theatre for highly-skilled performers able to combine Acting, Singing and Movement in their presentation of a seamless journey of character. In the training, therefore, equal emphasis is given to the disciplines of Singing, Dance, Movement, Voice and Acting to enable the performer to flow from text into song and dance with no loss of character. The course will enable pupils to further explore Musical Theatre, Acting, Music or Dance at Higher or Further Education.


The Course is split into the following areas.

Drama: Acting Skills

Drama: Voice Skills

Drama: Movement Skills

Drama: Theatre Skills in Performance

Acting Through Song

Dance: Contemporary

Dance: Jazz

Theatre Performance.

 

Pupils will explore Acting and Voice technique. They will learn about Musical Theatre history from 1900 through to present day. They will explore Dance and Movement. Through solo and group singing they will explore Musical Theatre genre, ranging from Disney to Sondheim, Porter to Rock, the aim is to enable them to see the growth and development of the style over the years. Performance is also a key aspect of the course and the Pupils will be asked to perform regularly throughout the year.

Pupils will spend their time within the Drama and Music Department working as a whole class, small groups or independently.

This course is continually assessed throughout the year by a series of practical and written exercises. Pupils are expected to rehearse and do work in their own time.

This is a highly practical course that is normally done at a Further Education College over the space of a year full time. With this in mind the course is aimed at S6 pupils only.    


Entry Requirements:

Either Higher Drama, Higher Music, Higher Dance or other relevant experience.

We would hope pupils would have strength in at least two areas of Musical Theatre e.g. Singing/Acting, Acting/Dance or Dance/Singing.
