Exam preparation for Mrs Maxwell's class:
The following work should be completed during the Easter break. Prioritise tasks as outlined below.
1. Answer the following question on "The Great Gatsby" from the 2011 paper:
Choose a novel or short story in which the writer explores feelings of rejection or isolation or alienation.
Explain how the writer makes you aware of these feelings and go on to show how this exploration enhances your appreciation of the text as a whole.
Consider: Gatsby's hope, the American Dream, contrasting settings, symbolism, social class divide...
You can use your notes to complete this essay.
Remember to only choose one idea - rejection or isolation or alienation.
2. Complete the 2010 close reading and be prepared to go over this in class during the first week back. There's no need to do this under timed conditions; feel free to use your close reading revision notes.
3. Choose one question from the drama section in any past paper and write an essay on "Othello" under timed conditions.
4. Choose one from the poetry section of any past paper and write an essay under timed conditions on one of the poems studied with Mr Halliday.
