Ideas for S3 - S6

Some ideas for home education for S3-S6, when school is closed, or a pupil is unable to get into school.

 

  • Study skills: choose a topic of interest or related to a school subject, and ask child to set 5 or 6 questions, they then research them, and produce a colourful mindmap of findings

  • Reading comprehension:  A useful BBC website for reading activities - click here.
  • Spelling: Try building mnemonics for words you find difficult to spell, eg ‘because’ – ‘big elephants can always use small elephants’.
  • Spelling: Look through your jotters and make post-it notes for words you frequently mis-spell

  • Subject study skills: Use the SQA website to improve your study skills in preparation for exams by reading SQA Study Guides:   
  • Get your folders in order
  • Read through your notes and use a highlighter to identify each key word
  • Read through your notes and make a mind map for each unit of work
