The Knox Newsletter

The Knox Newsletter (formerly known as the Knox News) is produced four times each session and is available to view on this website.

We also distribute copies to all P7 pupils in our cluster primaries to give them a taster of what they can look forward to when they join S1 at Knox Academy the following session.

Update: March 2014

Two former students at Knox Academy - Stephen Barcroft and Chris Crawford – have dropped their given names to become The Gingerbread Men, a team taking part in the 2014 Mongol Rally. The Mongol Rally is a yearly event, in which teams drive from London to Ulaanbaatar in search of adventure and to raise money for charity. Unlike other organized rallies this is not a race, and there is no set route. Various bizarre and unsuitable vehicles can be used to complete the Mongol Rally, though cars must have a limit of a 1000cc engine; Why? Well, why not?

This isn’t our first adventure together we were part of the Knox Academy Outlook Expedition to Zambia in 2009. Volunteering at a community school, and experiencing all the country has to offer. As part of the trip we spent 36 hours in a tiny mini bus with 16 of us inside. Though not a scheduled part of the trip we made it through that in one piece, how hard can taking part in the Mongol Rally be? Pretty hard given our combined motoring mechanics knowledge is equal to that of a jacket potato, and granny mobiles aren’t designed to tackle the terrain we will experience. We are aiming at reducing our hefty expenses through commercial sponsorship in return for space on their websites and car.

The sound of adventure may call to us at night, but this isn’t just for fun; it is also to raise funds for two worthwhile causes. The Gingerbread Men love a good rainforest, and hate a bad cancer. That’s why we are raising money for Cool Earth who every year save acres of rainforest and give aid to the communities within and MacMillan Cancer Support who provide vital support for cancer patients and their loved ones. We are currently aiming to raise £1000 for these fantastic charities. If you are a kind and generous soul, head over to our Virgin Money Giving page and donate in support of an adventure and a mighty good cause. Absolutely all money donated via the page will go directly to the charities.
