Megan Richardson (4G1) has been nominated and named in the final six person shortlist for East Lothian's Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Megan and her family have been invited to attend the Sporting Achievement Reception at the Marine Hotel in North Berwick during February, where Catriona Matthew (this year's Womens British Open Golf Champion) will receive The Freedom of East Lothian.

Megan has had a fantastic year competing and winning through-out the country in team and individual events. Her most recent success was winning all three titles at both the U17 and U19 levels at a tournament at Meadowbank Stadium in December. Megan also represented Scotland this year and will be competing in her first senior National Championships in Perth during February.

Fingers crossed that Megan will pick up another trophy and be crowned Young Sportsperson of the Year.

Knox Academy's basketballers got the new term off to a competitive start at training, by hosting a small Interhouse basketball tournament.

With each house entering a team into the event (Garleton managing to field two teams), there was a great atmosphere from the spectators who witnessed seven fantastic games with plenty of baskets. The group stages saw the Garleton A team come through ranked 1st, Lammerlaw 2nd, Traprain 3rd and Garleton B team 4th.

The Plate final (3rd v 4th) was a little one sided with Traprain outscoring the Garleton B team 19-2. The cup final however was a much closer match and it was not until the final hooter that Garleton A team managed a looping basket to win the match 6-4. Having gone down 4-0 Garleton A team looked a little surprised by how fast Lammerlaw had come out their blocks. However, with some good offence and a strong defense Garleton A managed to claw their way back into the game with Finlay Munro (2G1) getting the decisive basket.

Winning team: Garleton A - Peter Gilmour (1G1), Craig Greathead, Max McAlpine, Finlay Munro (all 2G1), Sandy Holden (2G2) and Andrew Wheelans (2G3)

Round 1: Garleton A 14-5 Traprain, Garleton B 2-0 Lammerlaw

Round 2: Garleton A 22-7 Lammerlaw, Garleton B 8-20 Traprain

Round 3: Garleton A 12-2 Garleton B, Lammerlaw 8-2 Traprain

Plate Final: Traprain 19-2 Garleton B

Cup Final: Garleton A 6-4 Lammerlaw
