Knox Academy took eight pupils to the Regional Schools Sportshall Athletics Festival for pupils with physical, sensory and/or learning difficulties at Blackburn, West Lothian on Wednesday 10 February.

Accompanied by Mr Couper (Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator) and Miss Little (from the Learning Support Base), the team took part in a series of run jump throw events and relay races.

The team had a great day out competing admirably and will be keeping their fingers crossed to see if any of them will be invited to the ‘Nationals’. The team (and new recruit from Dalkeith, Ross, who joined our team) also celebrated the day with cup cakes as it was Ashleigh’s 13th Birthday.

Knox Academy triumphed in the recent East Lothian S2 Orienteering challenge held at John Muir Country Park.

Eighteen S2 pupils representing the three houses of Knox Academy (Garleton, Lammerlaw & Traprain), travelled to John Muir Country Park on Wednesday 10th February 2010, to take part in the Outdoor Education East Lothian S2 Orienteering Challenge. The event was an individual pursuit that witnessed over sixty pupils from the six East Lothian state schools navigate their way around the course picking up as many points from the different score stations in the quickest time possible.

In the end, Knox Academy had six top ten finishers and held the top four places, with Finlay Munro in 2G1 being the overall winner collecting the most points in the quickest time.

Knox Academy also use this event as an Interhouse competition and even though it was a Garleton winner in the individual pursuit, the winning team was Traprain with a massive overall total of 5060 points. The individual totals were added up and simply because Traprain managed to fill their team they managed to be the overall winners. Hopefully next year Garleton and Lammerlaw will manage to pull together a complete team of ten competitors.

Knox Academy beat Dunbar Grammar 26-24 to reach the semifinal of the National School Plate Competition.

Knox travelled to Dunbar on Thursday 28th January with 8 young basketball players to take on Dunbar Grammar in the U15 competition. Knox, who had lost to James Gillespies in the Cup competition, could not wait to play Dunbar Grammar in the plate as they had been put through their paces for the last few months at training without a game. But it was Dunbar who struck first and led 8-2 at the end of the first quarter. However, a spirited fight back saw Knox close the gap to 14-12 at the half and then take the lead 18-22 by the end of the third quarter. They then managed to hold on with some great defense to close the match 24-26.

The game changed in the second quarter when Eilidh McClure scored three unanswered baskets for Knox and Eilidh Munro out-marked Dunbar's Andrea McPherson, who scored 18 points for her team. The girls are looking forward to the semi finals which will be played later this month.

Team (points scored in brackets):

Kathryn CouperWhite 3T1 (2), Saimah Uddin 1G3 (2), Sian Thomas 3G1 (2), Eildih McClure 1G1 (6), Eilidh Munro 1G1 (8), Anya Singh 3L2 (6), Emma North 2G2, Annabel Jackson 1G3.
