2 pupils from Knox Academy took part in the first Scottish Gymnastics Grading Competition of 2012. Both pupils, competing for City Of Edinburgh Trampoline Club, did the school and their Club proud at this event!
Caitlin Oliver (class 2T2) was taking part in her first Scottish Gymnastics event, competing in the Club H Under 15 category alongside 19 other entrants from across Scotland. Caitlin performed 2 well executed routines and finished in 9thPlace. A very promising result for her first Scottish circuit event.
Lloyd Connell (class 4T3) was competing in a new category this year after having successfully attained move- up scores late in the 2011 season. The Regional F Over 15 category is a tough group with all individuals focussed on increasing routine difficulty and form with the aim to attain move up scores to Regional E. Lloyd held his own in this category, finishing in 3rdplace and missing the required move up score by only 0.1 points!
Congratulations to both Caitlin and Lloyd, and everyone at Knox wishes them all the best in any future events.
Both Caitlin and Lloyd have attended trampolining lessons run by City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club at Knox Academy. If you would like your child/ward to take part in trampoline lessons, please ask them to contact Mr Lambert, the school's Sport & Physical Activity Co-ordinator. More details on trampoline classes can be found in the news story below.
Trampoline classes at Knox Academy run by City of Edinburgh Trampoline club will begin next Wednesday 1st Feb and next Friday 3rd Feb. The classes have been running for many years now at Knox, and pupils receive top quality coaching for the CEtC coaches, many of whom perform on the British trampolining circuit themselves. Classes are very popular amongst girls and boys at the school, and pupils always find them extremely good fun, as well as being an excellent way of staying fit and active.
Wednesday classes start at 4.15pm and finish at 5.15pm.
Friday classes start at 12.15pm and finish at 1.15pm. All classes are held in the Knox Academy games hall.
Classes cost £3 per session. As there are 7 classes in this block the total cost for this session is £21, or £42 if your child/ward would like to attend both classes.
If you would like your child/ward to attend, please ask them to collect a sign-up form from Knox Academy's Sport & Physical Activity Co-ordinator Andy Lambert, or contact the school directly.

There are over 20 other trials bike riders at Knox Academy in S4 and below with many more just learning. The future of the sport in Haddington looks extremely bright, and hopefully plenty other riders can go on to achieve similar success to that of Aaron. In fact, Aaron's younger brother Simon finished 3rd overall in Britain in his class, having followed in his brother's footsteps and won his class in the Scottish event. We look forward to welcoming Simon to Knox in August, where he will join Aaron and some other pupils in the photo below looking to achieve more success in trials biking. All the boys are extremely grateful to Max Chalmer's (2G2) grandfather for allowing them to train in his barn over the winter months.

We wish all of the Knox Academy trials bikers and Simon Duke the very best of luck in upcoming events.
Local teenager Holly Ramage came back from the Northern European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Sweden with a silver medal.
The event at The Fyrishov Arena in Uppsala brought together youngsters from the host nation, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Sixteen-year-old Ramage attends Knox Academy and is a member of Lasswade GC. In the all-around competition she gave a very creditable performance finishing eighth.
Ramage’s score of 12.550 on floor also secured her place in the individual floor apparatus finals and in spite of a four hour wait between her warm-up and taking to the floor she gave a bold and artistic performance, scoring 13.150 to earn the silver medal behind Lizzie Beddoe of Wales.
2014 women’s artistic Scotland national coach Rod Smith said: “We took a young and relatively inexperienced team to this competition and the fact that we came back with two medals was a significant achievement.”
