Wishing everyone within our community a very Happy Christmas.
We concluded the term with our annual sing-a-long to the 12 Days of Christmas (Knox Style).
On Saturday 6 December 2019 ‘Oceanic’ attended the Young Enterprise Christmas Market at the Eric Liddell Centre, Edinburgh. Young enterprise is a charitable programme which promotes entrepreneurship in young adults in their senior school phase. The competition involves setting up a business with products that you then go and sell to the public. Our product consisted of eco packs that we had put together ourselves and other individual eco products. The teams competing were from private and public schools in the Lothian area.
Our sales pitch, which was awarded second place, comprised of us explaining our product, our aims, how we have achieved this in our product and what makes our product special. We won 2nd Best Product, 2nd Best Sales Pitch and Best Overall Company within all the Lothian Young Enterprise teams. We all really enjoyed the day and had great pride in presenting and selling our product to the public. We made sales of over £200 at the market.
We have already attended the East Linton Christmas Market, the East Linton Christmas Market at the Mart and other school events like parents evenings and concerts where we have had lots of sales. We owe a huge thank you to Caroline Kirk, who owns ‘Embrace and Evolve’ who is our business advisor, for her constant support and amazing, expert advice. She has been fantastic with us and our business and has played a big part in our success to date. I am very proud of my team that consists of Amanda Martin, Orla Walker, Gregor Naysmith, Matthew Nelson, Dillon Ball, Ben Ritchie and Alexander Doctor. They all performed amazingly and I could not be happier with the team I have!
We were so happy with the results on the day and look forward to continuing to sell our products to the local community, if you wish to buy any of our products please email: ka.oceanic@gmail.com.

As you may be aware the Scottish Government has recently made some changes to the way in which young people are assessed in National Qualifications. The most significant change has been the decision to remove mandatory unit assessment from National Qualifications, with units now removed at National 5 level and Higher. Mandatory units will also be removed at Advanced Higher level in session 2019-20.
We have updated our SQA Presentation Policy to take account of this.
At S1 Parents Night on Wednesday 4 December, the Eco-Committee will leave its uniform rack in the front hall for parents who would like to take additional uniform items for their children. There is no charge for taking any items - the goal is to support families and to reduce clothing waste!
There will also be a donation box for anyone who would like to donate uniform items to us. We are accepting all sizes of blazers, white shirts, black jumpers, trousers, and skirts. Please ensure that uniform donations are clean before bringing them in. As a reminder, no hoodies will be accepted as these are no longer part of the Knox uniform.
