Are you are interested in learning how to use the lighting setup in the Assembly Hall, and additionally perhaps have a particular interest in drama or music?

One of our established "Lighting Technicians" who is in S6 is looking to cascade knowledge to a small number of people in younger year groups for sustainability.

A great opportunity to volunteer and learn new skills at the same time!

The Young Enterprise 2018 Team, '9 designs' are hosting a fundraising quiz night to aid our journey in the charitable young enterprise competition. It is being held on Thursday 11th October at Knox Academy, 18:45pm for 19:00 start. Tickets are £5 per adult and £3 per child/school pupil. It will be a fun filled evening with friends and healthy competition. Raffle tickets and refreshments available. Quiz teams can have a max number of 8 members, teams can be made before the night or mixed teams will be made up on the night.

This is a reminder that there is still plenty of time to enter the Knox Eco-Curricular logo competition! We are looking for a logo that represents the Eco-Committee and the Green Team together. The prize for the winning logo is a reusable coffee cup and a set of bamboo straws!

  • The competition is open to all students in S1-S6. Maximum one entry per student.
  • Entries can be drawn on paper or created digitally and then emailed to Miss Laudi (search jlaudi on Edubuzz).
  • The logo should have some green and it should be round (shaped in a circle).
  • Entries should be submitted to Miss Laudi by MONDAY 8th OCTOBER.
  • House points will be awarded to the winning entry and the 2 runners up!

Many thanks to everyone that applied to be part of this year’s Knox Sports Council. We had many more numbers than ever applying this year and the quality of applications have been excellent. This has made life very tricky for the selecting committee but they have now made their final selection…

There seems to be some confusion regarding Leavers Dance Payments. Therefore in order to try and avoid any issues we have decided to extend the deadline for the amount to be paid in full : the full payment of £72.00 should be paid by Wednesday 31 October. If you are unsure of what you have paid so far please see Miss McBride or Miss Maguire in the office. As previously stated, if you haven't paid in full by the above date we will assume it is because you do not wish to attend Leavers unless we have been told otherwise.

Tomorrow evening (Tuesday 25th September) there will be an S6 UCAS event at the school at 7:00pm. This is an opportunity to hear from several speakers to support pupils applying to University this academic year. There will be 5 speakers who will chat about choosing, applying, personal statements, LEAPS, finance and a Plan B if you are unsuccessful in gaining entry. We would encourage pupils and their parents to attend the event.

We are excited to announce that Knox Academy have been selected to be part of the National Theatre Connections Project.  If you are in S1/2 this is your time to shine!  Come along to our meeting about the project in the Drama studio on Friday the 28th of September 12-12.15pm.  Final Auditions will take place on Wednesday the 3rd of October in the Drama Studio from 4-5.30pm ! Everyone is welcome to get involved! Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity! For more information please see Mrs Pereira in the Drama Department.

Could any pupils who attended the Fire Up Scotland event in Glasgow, please let Mr Miller know if you would like to be involved in meeting up and discussing how we could bring some of the feelings and thoughts that we had from the event, back to Knox Academy.

This is a great opportunity for you to be involved in the planning and organising of a whole school event.

EDF Energy will soon begin the recruitment process for new Apprentices.  Recruitment will run from 1st October 2018 to 6th January 2019.

The apprenticeship is a 4 year scheme; 2 years are carried out at the National College for Nuclear at Bridgewater and Taunton College, with the summer holidays being based on site. As well as getting paid to learn, all accommodation and meals will be provided while studying at the National College, as well as flights home on designated leave periods.

The final 2 years of the Apprenticeship Scheme will be fully site based, with the option to go on to study an HNC.

Torness will be holding two information days for applicants on Sunday 4th November and Saturday 1st December. There will be four sessions on each day; 9:30, 11:00, 13:00 and 14:30.

There is a Skills Scotland event for pupils on the 8th November at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh. This is a great opportunity for pupils to discover what’s next for them at Scotland's largest series of careers, jobs, skills and apprenticeship events. Running club starts again this year on Thursday. This involves running games, general fitness, longer runs and testing your 100m speed. If interested come along after school on Thursday. Be in sports gear and meet outside the P.E classroom for 4.00 till 4.30.

Are you artistic, creative, innovative? All of the above? If you answered "yes" this competition is for you! We are looking for a logo to represent Knox Academy’s eco-curriculars: the Eco-Committee and the Green Team! The winning logo will be used on the environment page of the school website, it will become the profile image for the knox_eco_comm Twitter account, and it will appear on our assembly presentations and eco-board. What are the rules of the competition?

Hundreds of healthcare professionals from across the UK will be volunteering to present and network with students who are interested in:

  • Medicine
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Dentistry

at the National Healthcare Weekends on the 3rd and 4th November 2018 and the 23rd and 24th March 2019, taking place at the University of Stirling!
 
It is a highly valuable opportunity for students to network with a variety of healthcare professions, learn about work experience opportunities and how to make a successful application.
Registration is £25 for students on the Saturday conferences and there is an optional UCAS lecture available on Sunday for each specialty.  
Students can register on the Medic Mentor website (medicmentor.org) .

Our U18 and U16 SOR Rugby teams were playing in the first round of the Scottish Cup on Wednesday night unfortunately both teams lost their matches with U18s beaten by Peebles 22-14 and U16s beaten by Berwickshire Schools 12-45

We now enter the Plate competition of the tournament.
