NHS Lothian is delighted to announce the launch of its Summer Youth Volunteering Programme.  The programme offers young people aged 16-24 the opportunity participate in a series of taster volunteering experiences over a five week period in one of our Acute or Community Hospitals. 

Young people participating will gain;

• The opportunity to gain insight into the NHS Lothian and careers in health care
• The opportunity to build confidence and develop skills
• A reflective workbook to identify new skills and experiences to support applications for work or study
• Travel expenses
• Volunteer uniform
• Young Scot Points
• A reference on completion of the summer programme
• The opportunity to volunteer to extend volunteering beyond the summer programme commitment if desired
• You can also use the volunteering hours towards a Duke of Edinburgh or Saltire award

Part-time Job Opportunity - We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and hard working person to come join our team at Pear Tree Nursery to assist with housekeeping and dish washing.  The position would be Mon to Fri 3.45/4.00 pm to 6pm.  Duties would include general housekeeping, clearing and washing dishes/sweeping floors/tidying rooms.  No previous experience required and would possible suit someone at school looking for part time work. CAN-DO.SCOTCan Do is East Lothian based charity that supports children and young people with disabilities to enjoy enriched social opportunities during their school holidays.

We are undertaking a volunteer recruitment drive and would love to offer Knox Academy pupils the opportunity to volunteer with us over the summer holidays 4^th July – 12^th August at one of our three bases.

Our volunteering opportunities are open to pupils aged 15 years or older, who can demonstrate patience, have a kind caring nature and a good sense of humour. Pupils must have the capacity to take on a caring role. They will be paired up to provide 1-1 support and friendship to a young person who requires them to communicate and interpret instructions on their behalf.

A reminder that Friday marks the deadline for Achievement Tie Award applications. These awards mark the many significant achievements of our pupils at Knox Academy and can relate to both in school based extra-curricular and non-school based wider activities.  Even recently have seen multiple examples of pupils who have done great things both in and out of school.  Applications may be made by parents, teachers, coaches; you may even consider nominating a friend or yourself if you haven't already done so! If you have any questions or need some support completing a form please contact Mr Clark in M8 Geography.

Mr Clark will be contacting the Achievement Ties Committee in due course to help consider those pupils who have applied for awards.

Nominations remain open until Friday 6 May 2022.
