East Lothian Works and Edinburgh College are delighted to announce that applications are open for our Early Learning and Childcare courses, starting in August 2023.

Our Skills for Work programme is completely free, and offers a supportive step back into vocational learning for adults in East Lothian - especially those considering a career in Early Learning and Childcare/school settings.

Learners study SQA accredited units delivered by Edinburgh College - this semester’s offer is detailed in the attached flyer.

The Head Pupil Question Time event will take place this Wednesday (21st June) in the assembly hall during Period 5.  This may go slightly into lunch.  

Could all S5 and S6 pupils register with their classes teachers who will bring you down to the hall for the period.  This will be the Head Pupils Candidates main opportunity to speak directly with their electorate before you all cast your votes.

We are celebrating Pride week at Knox Academy this week by exploring LGBT+ representation in the media and creating a Pride display in the social area!

LGBT+ Representation Quiz

Take some time during registration to test your knowledge with a quiz on LGBT+ famous people. All registration teachers have been emailed this.

Pride Display

Don't forget to email either myself or Ms Stobie with a quote about why you are proud to be LGBT+, or an ally of LGBT+ people! These will be anonymously featured on a display in the social area.

Pride Events

A reminder of non-school related pride events happening this week:

LGBT Youth Scotland have got some amazing opportunities available for pupils who want to get involved in Pride this year. This includes a Friday Pride Creative Hub at Canongate Youth 1.30-4pm (every Friday) and information about the Pride march on Saturday 24 June 2023. If you would like to go along to Pride and march with LGBT Youth Scotland they will be meeting at the Scottish Parliament at 12.30pm, setting off at 1pm, finishing at The Pride Edinburgh Festival Village in the EUSA Complex. This is not a school event but if anyone would like some more details about the event, please come and speak to Miss Stobie.

This Monday (19 June 2023) Period 1 there will be a meeting of all recipients of this months Achievement Ties Awards.   All pupils who have already received awards this month AND those who were absent should attend.  We will be issuing any outstanding awards and taking a group photograph.  Each pupil has been emailed and I have emailed registration teachers of those recipients to help remind pupils.

On Monday can all pupils involved register with their Period 1 teacher and then go to the food court where we will meet at 08:45am.

If there are any questions in relation to this please speak with Mr Clark.

Thanks to all those that have completed the Google form within the "SSE Renewables Google Classroom".  There are still several to do so however, so please do so as soon as possible.  We need to allocate which day everyone is taking part in and whether we can take photos. Next week is LGBT Pride week and we are looking for pupils and staff to share why they are proud to be part of the LGBT+ community. These will be put up on display in the school and will be anonymous. We are also happy to get some quotes from LGBT+ allies as well. If you would like to share a quote, please email Miss Stobie or Miss Fletcher through your edubuzz emails. The LGBT+ allies club will be meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 14 June 2023) in M.9 at lunch. This August, the English Department is running a trip for 35 pupils to attend the Edinburgh Book Festival (morning) followed by a visit to the National Museum of Scotland (afternoon)  Places will be given to pupils on first come, first serve basis when the consent form is handed in to Mrs Reynolds.
