The Christmas Dance 2023 Thumbnails are now on display.  If you wish to place an order please carefully fill out the order form, and submit payment (50p per photo) to Mrs Swallow or Mr Dempster.

It would be great to get all orders in over the next couple of weeks.  Time is marching on!

Pupils sitting National 5 Practical Cookery have their final exam for the assignment on MONDAY 4 MARCH 2024 p1 and p2.  DO NOT be late for this exam it is part of your final grading for this course.

Pupils being assessed will be sent to all staff - so teachers will know you should be back in timetabled classes at the start of p3.

Please note the PE department will be closed on TUESDAY 5 MARCH 2024 all day.  Pupils in S4, S5 and S6 have their practical performance assessments for their SQA courses.  If you normally have PE on a Tuesday, information about where your class is going will be on a whiteboard in the PE corridor.  There will be no lunchtime clubs on this day either.

Pupils involved in SQA certificated PE at all levels are involved in the final practical performance assessments on Tuesday 5 March 2024.

Pupils will be out of class on a rotation basis and will not be absent from classes all day.  

Schedule of pupils being assessed and times they will be out of class will be sent to all staff - so teachers will know when you should be back in their classes.

Pupils can double check their assessment time with their PE teacher and on the notice board in the PE department.  DO NOT miss your designated assessment time as you are unlikely to get another chance.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024 takes place from Monday 4 March – Friday 8 March 2024. It is a nationwide celebration of apprenticeships. It's a time when everyone can promote the benefits of work-based learning to people, employers and Scotland.

At Knox Academy, our My World of Work Pupil Ambassadors will be delivering a presentation on Apprenticeships to S3 and S4 pupils on Friday 8 March 2024.

This webinar will brings you new research from Skills Development Scotland. Hear insight from thousands of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices on their apprenticeship. You'll also find out what’s happened to those who have completed their apprenticeship. This ongoing work ensures that the apprentice voice remains at the heart of the system.

Apprenticeships from a Parent’s Point of View

In this one hour online event for parents and carers, hear parents explain why an apprenticeship has been life changing for their child, sharing how they have been supported to achieve and succeed on an apprenticeship. Find out about Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships – where to get more information, the help provided while taking one and how to find one. There’ll be more examples of how young people have been supported through their apprenticeships. An apprentice employer will also share what they look for in a young person when recruiting and why apprenticeships are vital in developing individuals and their workforce.

The Music Department would like to invite all staff & students to join this year's SPRING CHOIR.

The choir will perform at the pupil-led Spring Concert on Thursday 27 March 2024 at 7pm.

We will be singing What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong in 3 part harmony and will be accompanied on piano by Kenny Hutch (Haddington Community Choir)

The only requirement is that you attend at least one rehearsal every week in March.

Rehearsals will start on Monday 4 March and will be every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday lunchtime until the concert.

I look forward to welcoming lots of singers. Seniors & Staff - we need you too!!

Music students are strongly encouraged to join the choir in order to improve your overall musicianship.

Calling all Knox Musicians and Dancers! Just a reminder that if you would like to perform in this year's pupil-led Spring Concert on Wednesday 27 March 2024, then please fill out this Google Form(link is external). We are keen to get as many pupils involved as possible; whether you are an S6 wanting to do a solo in your last Knox concert, or a new musician looking to perform in a band for the first time!

Please fill out this form no later than the 26 February 2024, and we will be back in touch to confirm your slot in the running order and rehearsal schedule. Unfortunately there are limited spaces, so if the committee receives too many applications then we will hold auditions to make the selection process as fair as possible.

Cameron Calder (S2) has been attending Muirfield Riding Therapy for 6 years and has made great progress in both his riding and stable management.  He recently competed in the RDA Virtual National Championships 2023 and won the Junior National Championship. He was also the 1st overall National Class Champion.  As such Cameron is being awarded with a Full Colours Achievement Tie.  If you see Cameron around the school please congratulate him!

Due to popular demand, Mr Balfour's new Tech Talk Club (S4 - S6 only) will start on Wednesday, 21 February 2024. It will take place at lunchtime in room M1.11. This new club is all about exploring technology and computer science. Every session will have a different focus on a technology-related theme - whether it be something from the news or something that has been requested. This club is something that those who are interested in technology/computer science would find enjoyable. If you want to learn more about this, visit knox.is/ttc.

We are very excited to be running the first ever enterprise competition for all East Lothian secondary schools.  Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the  launch event for "The Big Idea" on 24 January.   

S3 Business classes will be creating teams to continue with the competition and we invite any other S3 pupils to a meeting on Thursday 8 February in M11 at break.  You can ask questions to find out more about the competition as well as perhaps finding others who may want to join you, to make a team.

You are welcome to take forward the enterprise idea that was created at the launch event, or perhaps you might have another idea you feel is worthy of developing - we would be delighted to see any budding S3 entrepreneurs!!

Prizes include: a cash sum and a dedicated business mentor who will help you turn your idea into a real business!!   

If you are interested, but cannot attend the meeting, speak to any of the Business teachers.

Just a reminder that Edinburgh College Open Days are ongoing at the moment. If you are thinking of leaving to go to College in August or if you are thinking about a Schools-College Partnership part-time College course next session, it is important to visit the College and speak with staff about courses, have a tour of the College and get a feel for the College environment. The dates are:

Granton Campus - Saturday 3 February: 10 am - 1 pm

Milton Road (our closest) Campus - Tuesday 6 February: 4.30 pm - 7 pm

Sighthill Campus - Thursday 8 February: 4.30 pm - 7 pm

The Music Department are delighted to be welcoming award-winning Scottish musician, Fergus McCreadie, back to Knox Academy on Monday 5 February 2024 to facilitate a masterclass with Jazz Band.

Music will be provided and no preparation is required in advance. Fergus will also be returning for a second masterclass on Monday 26 February 2024.

Members of Jazz Band should make their way to the Music Department for 3:20pm on Monday 5th February so the workshop can run 3:30 - 4:30pm.
