Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to invite you into the school, and therefore we are trialling virtual parents’ evenings via GoogleMeet.  GoogleMeets are secure on-line video meetings through Google accounts (within East Lothian Council, Google accounts are our Edubuzz system).

The class teacher will arrange appointment times during lesson time just as in previous years; the class teacher will then set up a 1:1 meeting through the pupil’s Edubuzz account.  This will appear as a meeting in their Edubuzz calendar and a link will be sent to their email inbox. We are confident that the majority of our pupils are highly skilled in how to manage these meetings following use over lockdown last term, but we will be providing individual support where required.  We expect that parents and careers will join their young person beside the connected device to have a discussion about learning and progress in individual subject areas. For confidentiality reasons, we will not be adding parent email addresses to the meeting, and expect that you will join your young person for the meeting.

Full details of the arrangements can be found in the letter from Mrs Clubb (Depute Head Teacher)

Thank you for everything you are doing to help keep your school safe, open and COVID free.

The measures your school has in place are necessary to protect children, staff and you as parents/carers. We must continue to work together and support our school staff in making the school as safe as possible, even if this feels difficult at times. Full details available in the letter issued 01 October 2020 from NHS Lothian Public Health.

Due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding public health and travel, the council has made the difficult decision to cancel all residential school visits to the end of the current academic year. Whilst I know this will be very disappointing for pupils and parents, the safety of our pupils and staff is paramount in reaching this decision.

There has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Knox Academy. A detailed risk assessment has been carried out by the school and Health Protection to identify any close contacts.

The school remains open and if your young person has not been contacted then they should continue to attend school if they remain well.

What to do if your young person develops symptoms of COVID-19
Full details and further advice are contained in the letter issued today (15 September 2020) from NHS Lothian from Dr Richard Othieno, consultant in Public Health Medicine.

How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19.

  • regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues straight in the bin and wash your hands.
