MEADOWPARK MATTERS 28.02.2020

I would describe 2019 as the Year of Serendipity for Meadowpark: so many opportunities for collaboration, fund-raising, engagement with groups and organisations, planning, evaluating and achieving were made possible by a hard working staff team, supportive and enthusiastic parent body and of course our determined young people.

Progress continues apace on our garden and all credit has to be given to the ELC men in Hi-Viz who have persevered through wind and rain. We had a delay in the holidays because of storms Ciara and Dennis but to see the ‘squircle’ taking shape in the centre has been gratifying and I am excited to be collaborating with community groups, Meadowpark parents and staff from across Knox Academy. Work continues apace on our garden project, and having diggers and workmen on site is providing interest and opportunities for communication between staff and pupils. I have to laugh when I think that originally I thought all we had to do was lift a few paving tiles!

We are investigating opportunities for further collaboration with Haddington Community Kitchen and Knox Academy to develop the area for growing fruit and vegetables throughout the year. Unfortunately many school gardens fail because maintenance is required over the holiday periods and this can be prohibitive. However if we are able to find ways of extending the garden to the wider community then I am hopeful that our endeavours will be sustainable. Read more here...07.02.2020

This week staff and pupils were able to put our vision into action that we will ‘Always choose kindness and create a respectful environment where staff and pupils can inspire each other to achieve their goals and become life-long learners."

It is transition time and we have been welcoming parents and pupils who have been given a placement in Meadowpark and for whom a soft, gentle, pupil led integration is key to ensuring continued success. Read more here...

Today we bid farewell to Judie Hadden, ASN Learning Assistant Extraordinaire! Judie and I were 2 of the original 3 staff who met in August 2015 to begin in a new provision in a school which was still being renovated and with 3 young people with hugely varying profiles. Staff and pupils operated out of one of the SfL rooms in Knox while I sat alongside Curriculum Leaders in what is now the Guidance room.  We worked closely together with our Knox colleagues to develop opportunities for our pupils. We were overjoyed to move to Meadowpark in June 2016 and have continued to grow in number and achievements. Judie has accommodated all these changes in her own inimitable way and we know that she will be an asset to her new employers. Our loss is very much their gain. A wee poem follows...Good-Bye Judie
