East Lothian Council adopt the British Psychological Society definition of dyslexia: Dyslexia is evident when accurate and fluent word reading and/or spelling develops very incompletely or with great difficulty. This focuses on literacy learning at the ‘word level’ and implies that problem is severe and persistent despite appropriate learning opportunities. Different students may present in different ways and to different degrees.
If you feel that literacy is something you experience difficulties with then please contact the Support for Learning Department to discuss further action including as assessment of need.
Our support and advice booklets are grouped under different headings but some of them may apply to more than one group, so it is worth taking a little time to look under all the headings. If you have any questions after looking at our publications, please contact the Support for Learning Department.
