Having said goodbye to two members of staff last week we have welcomed some staff on a more permanent basis or into different posts, so here goes:
Ms Maguire (who currently works on Reception) will be joining the Office Staff permanently as Business Support Administrator and will be taking on the role of my PA. Read more about 5 October 2012

SWIMMING GALA

Joshua Nisbet and Ashleigh Lawson were representing Knox Academy at the Regional Disability Swimming Gala on Thursday morning at Dalkeith Campus.  They both did very well with Joshua coming in 1st in both of his heats and Ashleigh coming 2nd and 3rd.  We are now waiting to see if they have got into the national squad. ADVANCED HIGHER MODERN STUDIES - VISITS

The Advanced Higher Modern Studies class have been working incredibly hard and have recently started their research for their Dissertation. The Dissertation is a 5,000 word investigation into the subject of Law or Order. They have been running tutorials in class and have a busy couple of months ahead of them with visits both in and out of school.

SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT MODERN APPRENTICESHIP

The Scottish Government are seeking applications for an Administrative Officer Modern Apprentice to be based at St Andrew's House, Edinburgh. The post will be in the Directorate for Safer Communities. Desirable criteria are 5 Standard Grades at 3 or above, good communication skills(written and oral), enthusiasm and reliability, able to work as part of a small team, able to prioritise and meet deadlines, familiar with Microsoft applications. MARINE BIOLOGY ASSOCIATION VISIT

Knox Academy was visited by the Marine Biology Association UK who held workshops for S3 pupils.  The workshops focused on the use of offshore windfarms to generate electricity. 

Some pupils were asked to build a model turbine to investigate the best possible design of turbine blades.  Other pupils were asked to debate and present information on the consequences of placing windfarms close to environmentally sensitive areas.

Last night we had a good turnout at the S1 Settling-In Evening.  It was lovely to meet so many new parents and it’s always nice to see some “old hands” as well.  Special thanks go to all the pupils who spoke and those who helped with front-of-house.  The school is only as good as our pupils and I think that we are in pretty good shape based on last night.
