The start of the week saw Mr Swinney welcoming our (in some cases, slightly nervous) Communication Plus volunteers into the school and getting them set up with the pupils that they are going to be helping.  I popped into the Library at one point to see adults and pupils  poring over their books and deep in discussion.  Thanks to the volunteers for giving so generously of their time and, well done to the pupils for being so welcoming and hardworking.

JERICHO CAFE - OCTOBER UPDATE

The Jericho Cafe will be closed for half term... re-opening on Saturday 27 October.

Based at the Tynepark Annexe at Poldrate, the Jericho Cafe aims to provide a place for Haddington youngsters to meet up with their friends to play pool, table tennis, video games and enjoy soup, rolls and snacks.

Correspondence Secretary to the First Minister

Scottish Government are offering a particularly high profile Apprentice opportunity as part of a team which provides dedicated correspondence and administrative support to the First Minister, based in St Andrews House, Edinburgh. This post will be part of a team who provide administrative and correspondence support to the First Minister, Alex Salmond. Can anyone tell me what these words are?!  The expression is very familiar to all of us, and only changes slightly when used in France or Italy: Qzert Yuiop.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING - 9 OCTOBER 2012

On Tuesday, the School Council met during first period for their scheduled monthly meeting. We first discussed any progress that had been made in the various areas we spoke about at our previous meeting. The queuing issue that was occuring in the food court, for instance, is still being worked on with the idea that more prefects could be used to minimise congestion within the food court. We also were able to decide that some issues were not to be taken any further such as a wireless internet facility along with a new football kit for the school. HADDINGTON VISION LAUNCH

Haddington Business Association, Community Council, Amenity Society (HADAS) and History Society have joined forces to prepare a vision for a bright future for Haddington town.

The aim is to make Haddington town centre a better place to live, work and visit – and to draw up a vision and action plan to achieve this over the next 10-20 years.

LOCAL HEROES - HADDINGTON ATHLETIC

In last Saturday's Evening News you may have seen the headline 'Local Heroes'.  These were sixth year boys from Knox Academy who made sports page for getting through to the 2nd round of the Scottish Youth FA Challenge Cup in a thrilling qualifier.

More details of the thrilling football match between Haddington Athletic and Musselburgh Windsor who met a week last Tuesday night on a wet and miserable night can be viewed below.  The game ended in a draw at full-time, then remained a draw after extra-time and was won by Haddington in a thrilling penalty shoot-out at the end.  Read more about LOCAL HEROES - HADDINGTON ATHLETIC
