ACTIVITIES WEEK 2012 REPORTS

After another successful Activities Week, pupils have been writing about their experiences.  Their articles can be read below as part of a writing competition... winners in the S1 and S2/S3 categories will be announced in the next Knox News, due to be published on Friday 29 June 2012. NICARAGUA AND HONDURAS - UPDATE 1

After traveling for over 24 hours, both teams have arrived safely and are currently staying in Grenada, Nicaragua. They have spent today exploring the city, including the central park and cathedral. They have booked transport to their projects as well as confirming future accommodation.

The weather has been very hot and wet. They are dining at a Nicaraguan restaurant this evening.

Currently, Morrison Construction is working on a co-located primary school, incorporating Haddington Infant School and Nursery and St. Mary’s RC Primary School and Nursery.  Last week the Design and Technology Department worked with Morrison Construction to run a “School for the Future” project involving 14 pupils from S3 – S5.  The project involved the pupils working as a team, using the actual design brief given to Morrison Construction, to design their own primary school. SKLS OUT FOR SUMMER

Information on an event to be held at The Bridge Centre, Haddington, showcasing local talent to be held on Friday 22 June at 6.45 pm can be viewed here.

SCOTTISH MEDIA ACADEMY

The Scottish Media Academy's summer school is now taking bookings for July and August. The five day course covers radio, television, online and print, including journalism, production and presenting techniques. It is designed and delivered by qualified university academics and media professionals. Courses run from radio stations including Forth One in Edinburgh and Clyde 1 in Glasgow. On Saturday, Mr Jappy, Mr Ferriman and Mr Blair travelled to the Czech Republic as part of our Comenius environment project. During the four day trip, they visited Ciezyn (Poland) and Cesky Tesin (Czech Republic) cities split during the Soviet era; Radhostem, including a museum of cultural history; Hukvaldy Castle and Stramberk, medieval hill towns in the Beskydy Mountains and the Woodland School of Ostrava.
