FUTURE OF ARMY CADETS

Over the course of the last year we have jointly explored the various challenges of developing and sustaining a Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Contingent at Knox Academy.

The contingent has a long and proud history, but have faced a number of challenges over the last few years.

An open letter from the Head Teacher at Knox Academy and Commander 51 (Scottish) Brigade can be viewed and downloaded below:

CHRISTMAS BOXES

Each year Knox Academy presents 'Christmas Boxes' filled with 'goodies' to members of the local community.

This year's theme for the Christmas Boxes has been decided – Disney Christmas scenes.  This theme covers all Disney Christmas characters, films or memorable Christmas scenes.  All tutor groups are invited to take part in this interhouse competition.  We ask everyone to get involved in this worthwhile event to make this year bigger and better than last year!

Photographs from Christmas 2008 are shown below.  Last year the theme was "Pantomime".

Lets get creative! Read more about CHRISTMAS BOXES

LOCKERS

New lockers have arrived and we now have a sufficient number to allocate a locker to every pupil who wishes one. If pupils who do not currently have a locker wish one, they should  visit the main office for a form and to pay a £5.00 deposit.

All pupils who currently have a locker will have this reallocated on Monday 30 November.

Pupils MUST bring their locker key that day – further instructions will follow.

GET INVOLVED...

All parents/carers of pupils at Knox Academy are automatically part of the Parent Forum.  To represent the views of parents/carers a smaller body, known as the Parent School Partnership, meets on a monthly basis with the Head Teacher, Teachers, Support Staff members and the Head Boy/Girl.

The purpose of the Partnership is to enable parents and school staff to work together to ensure the best possible educational experience and outcome for the pupils of Knox Academy. Read more about GET INVOLVED...

HEATED DEBATE

Congratulations to the 4 Knox Academy pupils who have reached the Scottish Final of the ‘Institute of Ideas Debating Competition’.

Alex Muir, Emma Lynas, Olivia Hansen and Tom Gates took part in a heat against Lanark Grammar and Jedburgh Grammar on Tuesday 27th October; the motions debated were: "CCTV is a threat to our freedom" and "It is irresponsible for women over 50 to have babies".

We wish them luck in the Scottish final, which will be held at Edinburgh University in March.

GREEN-FINGERED MAAP PUPILS

A green-fingered group of S5 pupils from Knox Academy assisted with the bulb planting in St. Mary's Pleasance on Tuesday last. The whole project was a great success and the pupils really got stuck into the planting, everyone was very impressed with their teamwork.

In one short day, they planted 500 narcissus, 1000 crocus and 400 fritillaria. These bulbs should make a tremendous display in the community orchard next spring (together with snowdrops to be planted later). Read more about GREEN-FINGERED MAAP PUPILS
