Young people from East Lothian are being asked by the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) to stand up for what they believe in and make a difference in their communities by standing as a candidate in the March 2011 Youth Parliament elections. 

This is a national organisation which provides young people aged 14-25 a platform to represent young people across Scotland and an opportunity to influence politicians and formal decision makers who are looking for its next group of youth activists.

On the Wednesday 25 February, the Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher Business Management pupils gathered along with some representatives from the local community for the inaugural Knox Academy Business Question Time.

Local business people joined the panel – Joe Forte from Joe Forte Sports, Suzanne Haughey from The Health and Beauty Centre, Mike Hoppe from Subway Haddington and Gillian Burgess who is Manager of M&Co Haddignton.

The panel was chaired by Linda Mitchell from Silver Lining. Alistair Bryce from the East Lothian Council Economic Development Unit was also in attendance.

Our fantastic day out was to the Stock Market Challenge at the University of Edinburgh on Thursday 18 November 2010. There were 27 teams from Edinburgh and the Lothians. Our team members were: Louis Luke (3G3), Bethany Quirk (3L2), Gemma Robertson (3G1), Kerri Scambler (3L1) and Robbie Watson (3G1). We were the team that were picked from the S3 Business Management classes, after a competition using the classroom version of the Challenge.

In the Stock Market Challenge there were 5 days (25 minutes in real time) where we had to compete to earn the most money from our investments. Every team started out with £13,400 worth of different shares and euros.
