June 2009

We have had a very enjoyable week, which included a very successful Sports' Day when we had a record number of competitors. The Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening was a lovely, if very warm affair. Congratulations to all prize winners and thanks to Inspector Mackay for making the presentations. As always, it was great to see so many former pupils attend this happy occasion.

During assemblies this week, I have been stressing to pupils the necessity of arriving at school on time and in full dress code, indeed, from August there will be 'Zero Tolerance' of pupils who disregard school policies in these areas.

Tomorrow a school group head to Zambia and Botswana on expedition. We all wish them a safe and enjoyable trip.

Also, best wishes to all pupils who will be receiving their examination results on Tuesday 4 August. Good luck.

It has been a hectic morning bringing the school year to a close. A surprising closing assembly and farewell to several members of staff concluded events. Thanks to all staff and pupils for another good session at Knox Academy.

Best wishes to all for a lovely summer and I look forward to seeing the pupils back in school on Wednesday 19th August.

Today is election day! The week has been dominated by the campaigns for election to the School Council and for the office bearers in the senior school (Head Boy, Head Girl House Captains etc). The school is adorned with campaign posters and the pupils with rosettes. Without a UN commission to check the procedures, I'm afraid some bribery has been going on (homemade cakes, sweets) and competition is fierce. An 80%+ turnout is expected. The results will be announced on Monday. Good luck to all the candidates and congratulations to the whole school on a great election day.
The weather let us down this week, the County Sports were cancelled and the school's sports' day has been postponed until Tuesday. This will be a busy day as Tuesday is also 'Busking for Cancer' day, when the talented musicians will be fund-raising around the school campus.

As we head towards the end of term, lessons and work will continue and the school will close for the summer holiday on Friday 26th at lunchtime. I am sure we will have an enjoyable last week of the session.

Best wishes,
JB Craig

It has been another busy week at Knox. On Tuesday, we had a very well attended P7 evening, followed by the visit to the school of the P7 pupils on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a hectic couple of days but the youngsters seemed to enjoy themselves and all took (a very noisy) part in Guitar Hero. The S6 pupils returned on Tuesday for their Induction Day and on Wednesday were 'thrown in at the deep end' to assist with the P7 pupils. They did a great job and, hopefully, allayed many of the fears of moving to secondary school.

Today we said farewell to the S6 class of 2009 at the Leavers' Ceremony. This was a light-hearted and enjoyable affair and I am sure all sections of the school community join me in wishing them health and happiness.

There are still several events to take place before the end of term and please look out for the final 'Knox News' of the session that will be distributed towards the end of the last week.

Best wishes,
JB Craig

This has been a busy week with the start of the new timetable for S2-5. The 'new' S5 pupils had a successful Induction Day on Tuesday and are now studying their Intermediate and Higher courses.

The examination diet is just about finished and we welcome the new S6 pupils back to school on Tuesday 9 June for their Induction Day. Already, many of them have volunteered to 'buddy' the P7 pupils on their visits to the school next week.

This year's S6 pupils who have completed their examinations are in the process of returning books and materials and completing a Leavers' Form. The school will have the opportunity to say a formal farewell to then next Friday at the Leavers' Ceremony.

A reminder that Monday 8 June is an additional in-service day and the school will be closed to all pupils except those sitting examinations.

Best wishes,
JB Craig
