Knox Academy pupils continued their outstanding records this year with more top performances recently.
Cycling
Sean Noon (3G2) has been selected in the Scottish U16 Cylcing Squad. This is an outstanding achievement for Sean, but with the success comes a lot of hard work over the next few weeks!
On April 20th, Sean and the team leave for Belgium where he will take part in a 4 day stage race from the 22nd-25th April. This is followed by a trip to the Isle of Man to race in the Isle of Man Youth Tour from 28th April-1st May and finally a hilly Time Trial at Kendal in the Lake District!
Sean has worked extremely hard over the winter months, and his performances in early season have obviously impressed the scottish Cycling coaches. We all wish Sean good luck in his upcoming races.
Judo
The British School's Judo Championships in Sheffield were held on Saturday 26th March, and Knox Academy's Scott Thomson (1L3) took a bronze medal in the under 42kg category. Scott did extremely well in a tough category against contestants from all over the UK and everyone at Knox Academy would like to congratulate Scott on this achievement! Well done!
Rugby
Knox S6 pupil Jamie Paterson made his debut at scrum half for Haddington Rugby Football Club 1st XV on Saturday 26th March against Dunfries RFC. Although the match finished in defeat for Haddington, this is a big step for Jamie who is still an U18 player.
The jump from U18 to senior rugby is huge in both the skills and physical sides of the game. Congratulations to Jamie, and we look forward to him making many more appearances in the red of Haddington RFC's 1st XV.
Badminton
Knox Academy's badminton stars Hannah Laing and Megan Richardson (both 5G1) continued their good form this year with more success at the Scottish U17 National Badminton Championships at Meadowbank on 2nd and 3rd of April.
Hannah and Megan met in the semi-finals of the singles, with Megan eventually winning a tough 3 set encounter. She faced #1 seed Rebecca Findlay of the Glasgow School of Sport 21-16, 21-16.
But Megan got her own back as she and Hannah defeated Rebecca and her partner Heather Campbell in the doubles final 21-10 & 21-9, meaning Hannah and Megan now hold the doubles title at U17 and U19 level! The girls are also the youngest members of the U19 squad who travel to Helsinki, Finland on Wednesday to represent Scotland.
Congratulations and good luck in Finland!
