Happy New Year from all at Knox Academy.

After only one week back at school, the term is in full swing. On Tuesday evening, the S6 gave the final performance of their pantomime: ‘Cinderella’. The Parent School Partnership (Parent Council) met on Wednesday evening and the minutes will be available on the Parents’ website.

The themes of the New Year Assemblies today were making the best of 2012 and being determined to succeed. All pupils were encouraged to:  Read more about 13 January 2012

apostrophe

An apostrophe shows some kind of possession (belonging to), eg "Lucy's cat", or it shows that a letter has been missed out from a word, eg "I'm for I am".  (Sometimes more than one letter is missed out, as in "they'd" for "they had.")

Try not to use an apostrophe to indicate a plural: "There were eleven player's in the team." This is not correct, although you will see a lot of it (especially in shops where it has become known as the "grocer's apostrophe"). Read more about apostrophe

22 December 2011

As you can imagine, it has been quite a week at Knox Academy…….

On Monday, I visited all the S1 classes; the aim was to find out if they had enjoyed their first term at Knox (and planned to return in January!). I am delighted to report that all classes said they had enjoyed the term and staff confirmed that the classes had worked well and that S1 are a pleasure to teach.  Read more about 22 December 2011

CHRISTMAS BOXES 2011

The theme for the Christmas Boxes 2011 was simply 'Christmas' to allow full creativity in design.

Every S1 class and all three houses in S6 produced a box and S1 to S5 were well represented.

Once decorated, the boxes are filled with lots of tasty goodies and distributed to the elderly throughout the local community.

The 2011 awards are listed below ...

S1 NATIVITY SCENES

During the month of December, the S1 pupils were tasked by the RMPS department to design their own nativity display. Thinking outside the box was encouraged and we have received some fantastic projects! We have had lampshades, cakes, gingerbread nativity characters, models, stables and many more wonderful displays. Judging was carried out on Friday 16 December by Mrs Craig, Rev Jennifer Macrae, Miss Orr and Mr Illingworth.

Overall winner - Nativity Tapestry by Amber Berg 1T

The Grinch

"And the Grinch with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,

stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?

It came without ribbons.  It came without tags.

It came without packages, boxes or bags.

And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore.

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.

What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store.

What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more."

Have a peaceful Christmas and a happy new year! Read more about The Grinch
