Knox Academy's sporting stars have been extremely busy over the last weeks and months.
Badminton
Hannah Laing (6G1) and Megan Richardson (6G1) won the Scottish National Doubles Championship at U19 level for the 2nd year in a row last weekend in Glasgow. They won a close match 19-21, 21-19, 21-18. This was a great performance by the girls, as one of their opponents was a full-time professional. Congratulations!
Basketball
Eilidh McClure (3G1) represented Scotland U14s recently in Nottingham where the team won 2 and lost 2 of their matches. Eilidh also travelled to Spain recently where the team finished 2nd and also played against Northern Ireland where Scotland were victorious.
Eilidh will be attending trials for the Scotland U15 squad on 23rd October in Glasgow. Good luck!
Boxing
Tom Birrell won with a 3rd round knock-out at the Leith Invitational Championship on Sunday. Tom was fighting at light-welterweight (62kg), and is taking part in the Scottish Novice Championships at Meadowbank on Sunday 23rd October. Martin Buist will also be fighting, good luck to you both.
Cycling
Sean Noon was selected to represent Scotland at the British Inter Regional Championships in Wales from the 23rd-25th September. Sean now enters an intensive winter training schedule in preparation for upcoming events in the new year.
Gymnastics
Holly Ramage (5L2) is competing for Scotland in the Northern European Gymnastics Competition in Sweden next month. Everyone at Knox wishes her the best of luck in this event, and with her continued training in the 2014 Development Squad as she builds up to the Commonwealth Games.
Judo
Scott Thomson (2L3) won his first Scottish Championship at under 50kg level in Motherwell last month. This is an outstanding achievement and qualifies Scott to join the Scottish talent development squad next year. Scott also won a bronze medal at the Heart of England Judo Championships in his first contest at 50kg level. Congratulations Scott!
Motorbiking
Paul McCLung (4T2) has had a great year in the F125cc class, winning the Scottish Championships as well as events at Knockhill, Melville and the North-East Champioships. Paul also won his first race over the weekend in the Mini Twin 650cc class against a field of adult. Congratulations Paul!
Lewis Rollo (1G2) finished in an impressive 5th place in the British U16 Superteens Championships at Oulton Park race track near Chester. This was Lewis first event at this level, and at only 12 he was by far the youngest competitor. Well done Lewis, and good luck in any upcoming events.
Swimming
Sabrina Wright (6G2) and Struan Stuart (4T1) will be taking part in the East District Champioship at Glenrother next month. Both have been training extremely hard and everyone at Knox wishes them the best of luck!
Trampolining
Lloyd Connell (4T3) won the Scottish National Championship at Regional G level, beating over 30 other competitors at Bell Sports Centre in Perth last month. This victory automatically moves Lloyd up a level to Regional F which qualifies him to take part in the national championships. Lloyd also competes on the British Circuit at Double Mini Trampoline at National Level C. This is a massive achievement for Lloyd and we all wish him good luck at the upcoming National Championships.
