Pupils undertaking the S3 CfE introductory course in Business have recently been preparing business plans. As part of this process they have been asked to prepare an 'elevator pitch' to deliver in front of the class.

Owing to an issue with our Management System, the S2 Progress Reports due out this week are going to be delayed. Further information will follow in due course.
As is always the case, if parents/carers have any particular concerns at this time they should contact their child's Guidance Teacher.

Over the last couple of months, we have had a variety of different people in to speak to the class regarding our Advanced Higher Modern Studies Dissertations. Our first visitors were PC Black and PC Gray from Lothian and Borders Police, who we quizzed on a variety of subjects including Scottish sectarianism and arming the police. Then John Thayers from MELDAP (Midlothian & East Lothian Drugs & Alcohol Partnership) kindly came in and discussed the influence that drugs and alcohol can have on levels of crime, particularly at a local level. In the next few weeks we were visited by three MSPs, firstly Paul Wheelhouse from the SNP, then Graeme Pearson and Iain Grey from the Labour Party; with them we talked a lot about reoffending and the methods used by the criminal justice system as alternatives to prisons. We also went to visit Haddington Sherrif Court where we had an meeting with the Sheriff and watched some cases being discussed in the Court. All of these experiences were hugely useful for our dissertations, and we would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to speak to us.

Haddington burgh charter issued by Robert the Bruce in 1318 is currently on display at John Gray Centre.
As part of East Lothian's Saltire celebrations the Burgh of Haddington Charter issued by Robert the Bruce in 1318 has gone on display at the John Gray Centre, Haddington. The Charter came back to the East Lothian archives last week and is the oldest document in the collections. It is now on display at the John Gray Centre until Wednesday 5 December.
East Lothian's Records Manager, Alex Fitzgerald, explained:
"In recognition of the need to strengthen the country's economy burghs and royal burghs were granted exclusive trading rights and privileges to help boost trade and raise revenue from taxes. On 6 December 1318, King Robert 1 issued a charter to the burgh of Haddington re-affirming the exclusive rights of the burgesses in the wool and cloth trade, in access to supplies of local timer and in the use of common pasture.
"The charter was passed by the Parliament that met in Scone and the text was written in Latin. A full translation can be read next to the original charter which is on display in the museum reception on the 1st floor of the John Gray Centre. It is truly amazing that it has survived 700 years in such good shape and we felt it appropriate to be on display during East Lothian's Saltire celebrations."
The John Gray Centre is open 7 days.

Two Young Enterprise teams from Knox Academy, BottleItUp and Team Engage, will be attending the Young Enteprise Christmas Market at the Apex International Hotel, Grassmarket from 10 am to 3 pm tomorrow (Saturday 1st December).
Please come and join us to learn all about our businesses and our products/services. There will be many Young Enterprise groups attending the event from across the Lothians and its a great chance to come and find out more about the programme itself.
BottleItUp will be selling aluminium water bottles with various designs on them whilst Team Engage are offering an online advertising service for local businesses.

On Wednesday 21st November Joshua Nisbet and Ashleigh Lawson traveled through to Scotstoun in Glasgow to swim in the Scottish Junior Championships.They had a fantastic time against some fierce competition. Joshua got through to the final of the 25metres Back Crawl and did a personal best of 31.84secs. This was not enough to bring back a medal but an excellent effort for Joshua. Ashleigh was in the final of the 25 metres front crawl and was piped at the post for a medal in this race. Joshua tried hard in the final of the 50metres front crawl but the competition was very hard. It was a long day for them but they enjoyed the experience and maybe next year we will bring back some medals.
