...is nearly here!...

…well, at least the organisation of placements is well underway for our fourth year pupils.  All of the S4 pupils now have usernames and password for www.workit.info.  This is the database that contains the details of all the placements available for our placement week of 19 - 23 November 2012.  This is available for pupils to look at and see what’s on offer whenever they like as it’s online.  There are currently around 80 places – and we have 160 pupils in fourth year.  Thankfully a large number have taken away forms so that they can organise their own placements out with the database – in fact I have copied and handed out over 200 self-found placement forms!  The completed paperwork is due in on Friday 14 September by 12 noon and so far we have had around 20 returns.  If you have followed this so far, you will realise that we need the self-found forms returned to the school so we can process enough placements for all pupils.

If you and your child have been discussing finding a placement out with the database, I urge you to get the paperwork signed off and back to the school in time for the cut-off date (click here for a copy of the form and letter).

If your child is intending to book from the database then class time will be given to making selections after the September holiday.  All pupils without a self-found placement will be invited to make 3 choices and places will be allocated thereafter.

In summary – if you want control over your placement choice, then complete a self-found form for a place NOT on the database.

If you’re happy to take a chance with what’s on the database, then start looking at what’s on offer and make your choice when asked to.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school and thanks to all the parents and employers who offer unending support to our young people during work experience.

An exciting opportunity is being offered for students and their parents/carers and teachers to visit construction sites around the country. This is an entirely free event!

Construction sites and new buildings will be opening their doors, providing insight to projects shaping the region, and a chance to see behind the scenes of one of the UK's leading and innovative industries.

The events will provide a unique opportunity to witness first-hand the scale and complexity of major construction developments and also demonstrate an industry-wide commitment to welcoming a wider, more diverse range of talent into the sector.

The collaborative initiative is the first of its kind for the sector and intends to raise the profile of the industry, challenge stereotypes, and to attract talent into the industry.

The events are being organised for the autumn by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), the Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council - CITB-Construction Skills, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

To get involved, and to find sites near you, please go to the Open Doors Weekend website where new sites are being added each week.
