Opportunities 2011 – calling all school leavers!
This year’s major careers convention for school leavers is being held on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th March in the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh. All schools across the Lothians are invited and Knox Academy is running a coach to take pupils there on the afternoon of 7th March. At the convention will be employers, training providers, the services, colleges from our local region and from across Scotland, and representatives from the voluntary organisations – ALL WITH VACANCIES! It really is an opportunity too good to miss if your son or daughter is leaving school this year.
Consent forms with all the details are available from the Guidance base, the sixth year common room or you can print your own from the website under Extra Curricular. Forms need to be returned to the Guidance base by Tuesday 1st March with £1 towards the cost of the bus.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Lothian & Borders Police Road Policing Branch is committed to the Association of Chief Police Officers of Scotland (ACPOS) vision of making Scotland’s Roads Safer through Education, Encouragement, Enforcement and Engineering.
In order to promote this message during March and June 2011 a joint initiative will take place involving the Police and its partner agencies.
The intention is that every school within the East Lothian area will be visited on at least one occasion either at the morning drop off or afternoon uplift period.
The aim is to reduce the number and severity of road traffic casualties on East Lothian’s roads and to increase public confidence that their journey to and from school will be safe.
Officers will provide advice pertaining to the safe carriage of children and when appropriate enforce Road Traffic Legislation.
Throughout the School term complaints are received on a regular basis relating to poor driving, inappropriate parking and the unsafe carriage of children. This initiative will hopefully address some of these complaints and it is requested that parents are made aware of this campaign.
Schools will be visited on a random basis to ensure maximum effect. Any identified areas of concern or schools missed due to operational commitments will receive additional visits.
On the date that your school is visited officers will ensure that feedback is provided.
Your support in this initiative will be greatly appreciated.

By the end of this week, each of our S1 pupils will have been issued with a copy of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Kidnapped. Reading this novel will be the main focus of their learning in English this half term.
Why not join us? We shall keep you up to date with our journey through the book, and what we are learning. This week - the first couple of chapters, and our hero's great expectations...
Look out for after school reading groups on Kidnapped over the next few weeks. It would be great to hear your views...

Those who missed the Christmas Concert as a result of the bad weather in December will be pleased to know that they are now not only able to listen to the Christmas Concert online, but can watch the afternoon performance as well.

Some pupils in 1/1 Maths have been busy researching and designing a new Wetsuit for Paratriathlete Jimmy Goddard as part of the STEM Challenges. All the hard work was concluded by Brénainn Woodsend (1L1), Chloe Craig (1L2), Olivia Christie (1L2), Jamie Duguid (1G1), Alexa Hay (1L1) and Jack Gidney (1G3) presenting their research to a panel of judges from various backgrounds in the field. The pupils received fantastic feedback for their "incredible" research, teamwork and presentation skills and were a credit to themselves and the school.

A formal decision has now been made by East Lothian Council to close all schools on Friday 29 April 2011, the day of the Royal Wedding.
Stuart Mills (4T1) and Rory McGregor (4L3) walked from Haddington to Edinburgh on Saturday 6 February 2011 to raise money for the Mark Wright Project.
The Mark Wright Project actively supports our ex-Service men and women, and their families in addressing the invisible wounds of war, and easing ex-Service men and women’s transition into civilian life.
Stuart and Rory completed the walk successfully in about 6 hours - a total of £420 has been raised.
Fantastic support for a very worthwhile cause - well done!
A reminder that school breaks for the February holiday on Friday 11 February at 12.05 pm. School resumes on Monday 21 February at 8.44 am.
During the February holiday an opportunity has been made available for senior pupils to attend revision sessions run by various subject teachers.
There will be 2 revision days: Wednesday 16 February and Thursday 17 February with the sessions running from 9 am until 2 pm each day.
Details of specific subjects, teachers and room locations can be viewed below. Please check for "Y" or "N". "Y" means that a revision session for that subject will run that day.
We hope that as many of the S5/6 will take advantage of this fantastic opportunity for extra supported study. All S5/6 pupils attending must ensure that they sign the register at the front door on entry (and exit from) the building during these 2 days.

When getting off the 'bus in the morning, pupils should cross Pencaitland Road at the Rosehall crossing and NOT directly in front of the 'bus.
