As the days are getting longer and lighter and thoughts turn to Spring I was contacted by the education representative from David Wilson Homes this week asking if we were still keen to put bird boxes up around the school grounds.  Naturally, I chirpily replied, indeed we are. I am hopeful that this will take place before Easter, so that both pupils and birds can benefit and we can monitor the activity of our feathered friends.

Pupils are naturally drawn to being outdoors and have learned to use whatever they find to regulate or stimulate sensory need. This week some of the planks that have been set aside for the Playpod had been creatively manoeuvred onto the tyres. The planks are sturdy enough to withstand the young people bouncing on them so I did not have the heart to remove them in case they were broken and so play happily continued. I was delighted to see the feedback from the SQA this week indicating that the verification of National 2 courses and Personal Achievement Awards undertaken by Esk class was approved. In some areas the evidence was  cited as good practice and gives us credence that we are certainly on the right track to be providing a climate of learning that will see our pupils become successful learners and confident individuals.

We are still in the early stages of developing our senior phase and transition beyond school. That said I have had feedback that one former pupil has been attending college successfully and they  hope to continue to enhance the qualifications attained here at Meadowpark. This week's revision is as follows;

  • NATIONAL 5: Simultaneous Equations
  • HIGHER: Differentiate/ Integrate Trig. Functions

In addition we also have our first Friday afternoon study session from 12.30-2pm. The National 5 Masterclass will focus on factorising/ completing the square and the Higher will focus on Double Angle & Addition Formulae.

Meadowpark pupils volunteered to clear invasive rhododendron from the grounds around Amisfield Walled Garden. Some of our young people volunteer weekly, where we have  an amazing work partnership developing rural skills and horticulture. The garden is well worth a visit!

The Rotary Club of Haddington came to Knox Academy today to support our Inclusion Fund by donating £300.00 from their Community Chest fund. We hugely appreciate the contribution and look forward to continuing this community link in the future.
