After increasing playing numbers across the board in 2011, Knox Academy are now focussing rugby provision on two particular areas in order to provide the school with a full house of playing teams.
Knox already has teams at S1, U15, U16 and U18 level, but with the help of Haddington RFC Development Officer Scott Marnoch and other coaches from the rugby club, the school are looking to form an S2 team as well as a girls side.
With roughly 10 second year boys playing week in, week out against older opponents as part of the U15 side, we feel we have an excellent basis of a team. Hopefully this drive can help attract the extra boys needed to form a full S2 side. Scott will be running training sessions every Friday on the school pitches, starting this week (Friday 2nd March) at 12.30pm. No experience is required, anyone can come along and try it out.
Knox are also looking to support the SRU's push on the women's game by offering rugby training to any girls who might be interested in playing. The idea is that East Lothian will form four teams; two in the east and two in the west, at U15 and U18 level. Musselburgh, Preston Lodge and Ross High will form the west side, with Knox, North Berwick and Dunbar forming the west side.
A training match will be organised between the two sides, before the teams hopefully go on to compete in regional and national competitions.
Scott will be running training sessions every Thursday lunchtime on the school playing fields. Strips will be provided, and as with the S2 boys no playing experience is required.
