On 28 June 2018, four students from the Green Team (Knox Academy's recycling club) entered the Viridor Eco-Challenge. The competition task - sponsored by Viridor - was to design and present a project specifically related to sustainability and environmental improvement within East Lothian. For their project, the Green Team designed a 3 week cross-curricular course that would teach S2 students how to live more sustainably in their daily lives by discussing environmental issues, cooking zero waste meals, creating art pieces out of recycled materials, and upcycling everyday materials into usable items.
Along with Dunbar, the Green Team tied for the first place prize. Both project ideas were outstanding and the judges were thoroughly impressed. East Lothian Council published the story on its website here. On 6 September 2018, students from the Green Team attended the Beautiful Scotland Awards in Haddington to receive their prize: a trophy and £500 to implement environmental improvements within the school. Well done to the Green Team! Keep up the inspirational environmental work!
