On Friday the 7th of September, this year's new School Council took part in a training day, held in the school library. The main focus of the training day was to develop key skills that could applied throughout pupil's time on the council. For most of the members, the day also provided the first opportunity to get to know who they would be working with for the rest of the school year.
The training day began with some icebreaker games followed by a teambuilding activity in which teams of pupils had to build a capsule for a raw egg. The day continued with various activities, including an exercise where 2 members of the council had a conversation, it was everyone else's job to take down the minutes of the exchange. Pupils also compiled various posters regarding the qualities of a School Counciller, some of the mentioned qualities included the ability to be decisive, responsible and, fun.
The training day was also an occasion for teachers throughout the school to come and talk to pupils about any particular aspect of school life that they wanted to discuss. The whole council discussed various topics including the dress code, the school council blog, and, promoting a positive ethos in the school.
