On Monday 1 November, on what could only be described as a foul night, 4 Young Entrepreneurs, travelled to Forrester High School in Edinburgh.  A Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) training evening (organised by Lothian YES) was held there which was far more pleasant than the weather outside!

Part of the Young Enterprise programme involves attending training evenings.  This training evening was for the Christmas Fayre which is held in Edinburgh at the Apex International Hotel, The Grassmarket, on Saturday 4 December 2010, 10 am – 3 pm, COME ALONG!

The training session was designed to give us the skills necessary to confidently sell products, to ensure that our table design is appealing and stands out from the crowd, but most importantly, to teach us organisational skills so that we have the best chance of success on the day.

The highlight of the night, however, was not the formal training, it was meeting the entrepreneur Peter Mclean.  Peter is Managing Director of the ‘Foodie Company Ltd’. He gave us invaluable advice on how to start up our own successful business.  Speaking to him after the event, we learned how to market our product, how to negotiate with suppliers and how to effectively price products.  (Peter started his company three years ago and now has a café in Edinburgh and is big competition to us in the Hamper side of our business.)

Overall, the night was a great success; a big thanks to Mr Dempster for taking us!

Further details on our products will follow...
