It was great to welcome our pupils back on Monday for the start of the summer term. The SQA Exam diet has started off well and attendance at it has been great so far – long may that continue! Many of our senior pupils accessed our Easter Revision Study Sessions and a huge thank you to staff who gave up some of their Easter break to run these and to ensure our pupils had this extra support. Booster and Immersion sessions will run throughout the SQA exam leave to support our S4-S6 pupil both with preparation for their exams and to ensure those doing National 3 /4 courses have completed all their course work to attain the overall award.
Although face coverings are now not mandatory, we are being asked to encourage all of our staff and young people to continue to wear these in communal areas/corridors to reduce the spread. We will also be encouraging pupils to have their break and lunch outside now the warmer weather is here so we can purge the air in classrooms/across the school at this time. A letter from Jason Leitch has been sent home today to parents/carers today and as of 1 May 2022 public health advice will change to a ‘stay at home’ message replacing self-isolation for people who have symptoms or have tested positive.
Our Ukrainian dress down day on the last day of term, when added to our bake sale, raised £1145! Phenomenal effort! Thanks to all pupils, staff and parents/carers who were able to give donations to support the Emergency Disasters Committee.

Edinburgh College
Exam Leave
The expectation is that senior pupils who are following courses at Edinburgh College will continue to attend their college course during exam and study leave unless they have an exam on that day. Please note that a further two days of strike action are planned at Edinburgh College next week (Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 May 2022).
Easter Revision School and Booster Sessions
Booster and immersion sessions will take place over the coming weeks and all of our S4-S6 should attend these, if possible, to support their SQA exams.
Supporting study with Parentzone Scotland
The exam diet commenced on Tuesday 26 April and many pupils across Scotland will be sitting exams until Wednesday 1 June.
This can be a difficult time for pupils, parents and carers. It’s important that young people are supported at home as well as school in preparing for exams, so Education Scotland has collated some of the support available in one place which parents/carers may find useful in helping their young person to prepare for their exams.
The ‘Supporting Study’ page on Parentzone Scotland hosts hints and tips for managing time, getting organised, encouraging study, and keeping well during this difficult time; links to useful websites containing revision guides, past papers and marking instructions; and ‘Nationals in a Nutshell’ guides.
Parents’/Carers’ Information
Parents Portal
This is now live. It is a new way for parents/carers to access information on their young person, interact with their schools and easily access other school services. Parents/carers can now access the Portal by using the same myaccount login (which is used for SchoolPay) to update parent and young person details, report absences, access SchoolPay, and much more. Over time, more services will be available. For more information on how parents can log into the Parents Portal and “link” to their children, click here. Please note, it is advised that parents of P7 pupils wait to sign up to the Parents Portal until they start at their new school in August
Water Safety – RNLI
As young people are linked to being at significant risk in regard to water safety, particularly as the weather improves, we have been asked to share the RNLI’s resource with our community. With the Tyne and many beaches on our doorstep please take some time to read this advice with your young person so we can all stay safe this summer. Thank you.
Pupils’ Achievements
Football
A huge congratulations to Aidan Smith S2, and Murray Bowsher S3, both of whom play football for Haddington Athletic CFC 2007s. During the Easter break they travelled to Amsterdam with their football team to participate in the Holland Easter Cup, a prestigious tournament with teams participating from Denmark, Sweden and across Europe. The boys were victorious in all 7 games they played over the weekend bringing home the Trophy!! What a fantastic achievement and great to have such talent at our school.

Congratulations to all of our Knox Academy pupils who had some sterling performances in the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow the middle weekend of the holidays.
