A Word from Miss Cook, Head Teacher

Staffing

Meadowpark appointed Ruby Ranu as a permanent Pupil Support Assistant.  The other post was not appointed and will be re-advertised in the coming weeks.

We are currently advertising for a temporary Support for Learning teacher – this will goes live today. We are also advertising for a Senior Business Support Assistant (Guidance) 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, permanent.

Digital Devices

It was great to be able to hand out Chromebooks to the majority of our young people this week. So many teachers and pupils are already using these devices to support learning, teaching and research. We would ask parents/carers to support their use at home for further learning and research. A Chromebook Accessibility Guide for Parents/Carers can be found here. Any pupils who were absent of didn’t manage to pick up their devices this week can get their new Chromebook on Monday, in the Library, between 9.30-11am. All pupils have been asked to retain the brown cardboard box it came in for a few days, although I am aware they have all been offered the chance to hand this in for recycling.

Coursing Information Evening

Thank you to all the parents/carers and young people who came along to the coursing information last Wednesday evening.  I hope it has helped in explaining the process your young person is about to embark on and provided you with the necessary information to support them.  All the information that was covered can be accessed via this link – Coursing Presentation 2026. The presentation and all the coursing resources/ information can be accessed via the  green ‘Course Choice’ button on the front page of the school website. (By Mr Russell)

Rights Respecting Schools (RRSA)

Our Article of focus this week is Article 19 - - Protection from Violence

Governments must protect children from violence, abuse and being neglected by anyone who looks after them.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS)

SDS is keen to hear from Parents and Carers about their careers service as you are key influencers over young people’s career ambitions and choices.

SDS work in close partnership with this school to support our young people to make informed career choices and they would value feedback from parents and carers on their services. You can do this by taking part in a short survey.

All responses are confidential and anonymous, and the results will be used to inform SDS services.

The survey should only take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Thank you for taking the time to   complete this.

Supporting Healthy Choices at School

We’ve noticed an increasing number of young people arriving at school with energy drinks, sometimes even as they arrive first thing in the morning and using it as their breakfast. These drinks are high in caffeine and sugar and are not recommended for children and young people. Retailers are asked not sell these energy drinks to under-16s.

At school, we provide a free, healthy breakfast every morning for anyone who would like one. This is a much better way to start the day, giving our young people the energy and nutrition they need to learn and thrive.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that energy drinks are not brought into school or consumed on site. A quick chat at home about healthier choices can make a big difference. Together, we can help our young people make positive decisions around their wellbeing.
