If you’ve got concerns about a child or young person ‘it’s better to say something than do nothing’ according to a new campaign.

Child Protection Scotland, Barnardo’s Scotland, NSPCC Scotland and Police Scotland worked together on the campaign which is running online. They say:

“As Scotland’s children settle back into the school routine and slowly begin to return to clubs and out-of-school activities, the month-long campaign aims to raise awareness that while lockdown and the pandemic has been hard going for many families and children, it’s been a lot more challenging for some families than others.

“Families who were struggling to cope before the pandemic may have been pushed to crisis point during lockdown, and even the most settled families will have faced new challenges during this time.

“Some children and young people may have experienced trauma for the first time, and some may have experienced neglect and abuse. This new campaign urges everyone to be alert to signs that all is not well for some children, and to take action if they’re worried that something is wrong.”

A mixed weather bag this week but I am delighted to report that it has not hampered the determined ELC groundsmen who have outdone themselves by preparing the ground for our sensory garden. Although planting is still to take place looks amazing. This project has been 5 years in the making from inception, we have had setbacks and funding issues but I am thrilled that what we have will sustain current and future Meadowpark pupils. I will be donating an apple tree ‘Tree of Knowledge’ which will form the centre piece. Read more here...Newsletter 02.10.2020

Thank you for everything you are doing to help keep your school safe, open and COVID free.

The measures your school has in place are necessary to protect children, staff and you as parents/carers. We must continue to work together and support our school staff in making the school as safe as possible, even if this feels difficult at times. Our long weekend was very much welcomed and with it the warm weather most of us enjoyed. There has been a definitive shift in temperature as the week has progressed however but this has not deterred us from getting out and about as much as possible. As yet we are unable to participate in PE indoors and will be making the most of our generous outdoor space. Today teachers worked collaboratively to devise plans for physical activities: Yoga, Circuits and a Sensory Activity Story. Read more here...25.09.2020

Due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding public health and travel, the council has made the difficult decision to cancel all residential school visits to the end of the current academic year. Whilst I know this will be very disappointing for pupils and parents, the safety of our pupils and staff is paramount in reaching this decision.

There has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Knox Academy. A detailed risk assessment has been carried out by the school and Health Protection to identify any close contacts.

The school remains open and if your young person has not been contacted then they should continue to attend school if they remain well.

What to do if your young person develops symptoms of COVID-19
Full details and further advice are contained in the letter issued today (15 September 2020) from NHS Lothian from Dr Richard Othieno, consultant in Public Health Medicine.

How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19.

  • regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues straight in the bin and wash your hands.

The Mathematics Department are delighted to offer lunchtime Supported Study every Tuesday and Wednesday. Pupils should bring their lunch with them and arrive prompt to get the most out of the available time.

We have scheduled topic specific revision each week which is designed to support pupils to 'pace' their revision as we work towards the important Prelim Exams. This is in addition to the weekly home learning tasks we set.

You can find the calendar of details here.

Also included in the calendar are our excellent '4 Question Challenges' which should support pupils self-assessment of their own learning needs.
