Progress continues apace on our garden and all credit has to be given to the ELC men in Hi-Viz who have persevered through wind and rain. We had a delay in the holidays because of storms Ciara and Dennis but to see the ‘squircle’ taking shape in the centre has been gratifying and I am excited to be collaborating with community groups, Meadowpark parents and staff from across Knox Academy. The £250 Best Start Grant School Age Payment can be used for anything from a coat and shoes to books or days out. The application deadline is 29 February 2020, so don't miss out!
You can get Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods:
- if your child is the right age for a payment
- whether you're in work or not, as long as you're on certain payments or benefits
- as long as you're the parent of a child, or the main person looking after the child
If you can get more than one payment at the same time
You only need to fill in the Best Start Grant and Best Start Foods form once to apply for all the payments you can get now.
If you can get one payment now and another in the future, you'll need to fill in a new form each time you apply.

This is to let you all know that there will be a Paris Trip meeting on Thursday 19 March in T1.1 (Miss McBride's Room) at 5.30pm. If a parent or carer is unable to attend please ensure that someone will collect all essential information for you.
Please also ensure that a photocopy of your child's passport & EHIC card (still valid until the end of December 2020) are brought to the meeting. If you have no access to a photocopier or scanner/printer these documents can be photocopied at the meeting therefore please ensure they are brought along so this can be done ( If you son/daughter does not have a passport please ensure that the process of applying one is started ASAP).
Lastly, please be aware that the two final payment installments are fast approaching : 28 Feb & 22 March. Please can you ensure that these payment deadlines are adhered to as we are now in the process of paying important invoices.

Work continues apace on our garden project, and having diggers and workmen on site is providing interest and opportunities for communication between staff and pupils. I have to laugh when I think that originally I thought all we had to do was lift a few paving tiles!
We are investigating opportunities for further collaboration with Haddington Community Kitchen and Knox Academy to develop the area for growing fruit and vegetables throughout the year. Unfortunately many school gardens fail because maintenance is required over the holiday periods and this can be prohibitive. However if we are able to find ways of extending the garden to the wider community then I am hopeful that our endeavours will be sustainable. Read more here...07.02.2020
