HEAD TEACHER'S UPDATE 2 FEBRUARY 2024

Coursing for 2024-25

All S2-5 pupils have now received the relevant paperwork to support their course choices. Everything is also available via the Course Choice section of the school website.

S3 pupils will receive their recommendations in their next report which is due to be issued before the February holiday.

S2 pupils should submit their Google Form (emailed to them this week) by Wed 21 February.

S3-5 pupils should hand in their column choice sheet to their register teachers on 21 February. They will be notified about their coursing interview by their House Team.

Wi-Fi

It has been fantastic to have our Wi-Fi fully up and running again and the school fully functional in terms of our ICT. As parents/carers were aware, mitigations were put in place to ensure that all of our young people were able to continue their studies without this impacting them. This was done through sharing ICT suites and also, in the case of our seniors, changing the order of some of the teaching content of our SQA courses, to ensure their learning continued to advance. Teachers will now focus on supporting pupils to complete any assignments or assessments that are part of their SQA courses. Curriculum Leaders, who have been working closely with their teams, are confident that our SQA candidates will fulfil all aspects of course requirements within the required timescales and in readiness for the April/May exam diet.

Chromebooks

We have Chromebook Health Check Clinic taking place at the school on Tuesday 13 February. If you young person has received a Chromebook from the school which they keep at home, please ask them to return this to Ms Patterson, or the office, by Thursday 8 February at very latest. This will allow it to be checked and updated. It will be returned to them the first week back after the holidays. This device should be brought to school daily for their individual use too.

Measles

We have been asked to share information on Measles with all parents/carers. This give details about the signs of measles and what to do if you think your young person has them.

Assemblies

Our House assemblies next week will look at the topic of vaping. These materials/toolkit have been produced by the UK Government as it has become such a widespread concern as so many teenagers (and younger) are doing it. You will also be aware that Scotland is looking to ban single use vapes as these are the ones that teenagers are purchasing - so many seem to be trying it and it continues to grow in popularity. It would be great if parents/carers could discuss this topic with their young people following these assemblies. Thank you.
