Army Foundation College are holding an Open Day at the College in Harrogate on Saturday 8th December.

AFC Harrogate offers an alternative to college. It gives 16-18 year olds the opportunity to get involved in sports and skills coaching, discover how to be part of a team, build confidence and develop leadership skills – all while earning a salary. There are two intakes each year, in March and September as well as two course length options – either 23 or 49 weeks. At the end of the course, they can then choose whether to go on to join the British Army in a full-time job, or pursue a civilian career with valuable training to see them set for success.

The Open Day is a chance for potential recruits and their parents or carers to visit AFC Harrogate. The day will include:

  • A general introduction to AFC Harrogate
  • A presentation on the long and short courses and the areas to specialise in, including medicine, logistics or communications
  • Q&A session
  • Lunch
  • Tours of the facilities, including accommodation
  • A presentation on the application process.

Please note: students will need to make their own way to the college, and will need to bring photographic ID.

AFC Harrogate gives students a promising future of opportunity, adventure and achievement -enabling them to reach their fullest potential. To discover more, contact your local Army Careers Centre

Have you ever thought about the amount of plastic involved in your daily routines? Consider the plastic bottles that your shampoo and conditioner are in, that bottle of shower gel or moisturizer. All of this adds up to a lot of plastic that could be avoided! Switching to solid shampoo, soap bars, and solid moisturizers can help reduce the amount of plastic packaging needed. They work just as well as (dare I say even better than!) liquid soaps, shampoos and conditioners and they last ages! Consider making this simple switch to cut down on plastic!

The Eco-Committee is looking to collect a few household items for an upcoming project! We're looking for:

  • Glass jars (clean & empty) with lids. We mostly need mid to large sized jars.
  • Empty spray bottles. This could be empty spray bottles from cleaning products (e.g. window cleaners) and beauty products (e.g. toner and perfume sprays).  As long as it's possible to open the lid and refill the bottle, we'll take it.

The Eco-Committee would really appreciate if you could save up these items, clean them out, and bring them into Miss Laudi's class. Thank you!

Published: 20 November 2018

Our Eco Tip this week is about how you can reduce the amount of plastic you use. When you go to the supermarket, avoid using the clear plastic bags for buying loose fruits and vegetables. Instead, take the fruits and vegetables on their own OR invest in some re-usable lightweight cloth bags OR even make your own! The point here is to cut unnecessary plastic out of your life! You can do it!
