The consultation on the Draft Local Transport Strategy (LTS) and associated documents is now live on the Council's Consultation Hub covering the period from 2018 to 2024. The LTS outlines a range of problems and issues affecting Transport in East Lothian and what actions and measures it proposes to deal with these issues. The draft Strategy reflects the key role of transport and outlines plans for ongoing development taking into account the wider changes in East Lothian as detailed in the Local Development Plan.

As well as the main draft LTS, there are a number of associated Plans which will deliver specific aspects of the overall Strategy - these are:

  • The Road Asset Management Plan
  • The Road Safety Plan
  • The Active Travel Improvement Plan
  • The Parking Management Strategy

We want to gather views on the draft Local Transport Strategy (and associated Plans). You can share your views on the East Lothian Consultations website. The draft LTS, associated Plans and SEA Environmental Report are available for inspection from Tuesday 3 April to Friday 11 May 2018. They can be viewed at all libraries and principal offices in East Lothian at John Muir House, Haddington and Brunton Hall, Musselburgh as well as the online consultation.

The first East Lothian Youth Summit 2018 took place at the Brunton Hall on Wednesday 7 March 2018. This inaugural summit will hopefully create a benchmark for youth engagement across Scotland, and lay the foundations for a proposed bi-annual event.

Since our aim is ensure we acknowledge the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, we want to build an approach to engaging with children and young people which is co-productive, dynamic and responsive to ensure that all of the their voices, and their communities, are heard.  We have a duty to collaborate with young people and allow this co-working to inform the education service as set out in the ongoing development improvement plan. The information generated on the day will influence the new cycle of East Lothian planning in 2018.

The idea was to spark on-going conversations that generate 'Ideas for Change, and Ideas for Action' that East Lothian can pledge on.  The feedback from young people, facilitators and adult helpers was very positive and, excitingly, some initiatives have already progressed from the ideas that were generated.

A summary of the day can be found in the East Lothian Youth Summit Summary - ‘Ideas for Change, and Ideas for Action’.

East Lothian Council invites comments on the draft school session dates for 2019/2020.

Comments can be made through the East Lothian Consultation Hub between 27 March 2018 and 4 May 2018.

The consultation on the draft school session dates for 2019/2020 is to seek stakeholder views.  Our neighbouring authorities, City of Edinburgh Council and Midlothian Council have set, or are in the process of setting, their session dates and these dates are available on the respective websites.  The East Lothian Council draft dates for 2019/2020 have taken cognises of our neighbouring authority dates and very much align with City of Edinburgh Council dates.

Technology is wonderful when it works well, and incredibly frustrating when things go wrong, especially at the last minute.
