As East Lothian Council transitions from the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award to our own locally designed accreditation model, we want our learners to be at the very heart of this change. Our new framework—featuring the PathfinderTrailblazer, and Beacon levels—needs a visual identity that is as vibrant and committed as our school communities.

We are excited to announce a competition open to all pupils to design the official logo for East Lothian’s Rights Respecting Schools Award!

The Design Brief

We are looking for a logo that represents the values of the UNCRC: the idea that everyone matters, that all children are important, and that everyone should be treated fairly regardless of who they are or where they come from. The full child-friendly UNCRC is available here.

Design Criteria:

  • Shape: The logo must fit within a square, but the actual design can be a square, star, circle, or shield.
  • No Words: The design should use line, shape and colour only —please do not include any text or words.
  • Style: The logo should be simple, child-friendly, and easily recognisable.
  • Medium: Any materials (pens, paint, collage, etc.) can be used, but the final design must be flat so it can be easily scanned into a computer. Schools will do so using a scanner/copier.

Technical Specifications

  • Paper Size: Use A4 sized paper.
  • Design Size: The logo should fill approximately 20cm x 20cm of the page.
  • Identification: Please use the provided template to ensure the student’s name, class, school, and age are clearly recorded with the entry.

How to Enter

The competition is officially open now.

Deadline: All entries must be submitted by 19 June.

Good luck everyone :-)
