Here are some fantastic opportunities at Lucy Cavendish College for Year 12 (S5/6) students and they've extended the deadline.

They are running three brand new essay and design prizes:

The deadline for submissions is midnight on 30 April 2020.

Preparing an entry for one of these competitions is a valuable experience for academically motivated students, allowing them to get to grips with University-style questions and is a great example of academic exploration for an application to Higher Education and a good educational way for students who are now at home to explore their subject of interest beyond the school curriculum.

This year we have questions covering a whole host of topics and a prize pool of £200 for each competition. If you have any queries about our outreach activities and open days please do not hesitate to get in touch at outreach@lucy.cam.ac.uk

All will be aware of the difficulties in Italy at the moment. However, until otherwise officially informed Italy preparations continue for our trip in May 2020.

A number of individuals were reissued with their PC1 Forms last week, regarding small (but important) elements that needed some attention. If you were one of these individuals and haven't returned please do so swiftly. We need these to progress trip paperwork with East Lothian Council.

If you haven't submitted your EHIC yet please bring this in, or ensure that we know you will require the card over the Easter Holidays.

Most Explorers have made full payment which was due by Friday 6 March 2020, thank you for this, but several have outstanding balances which are now overdue. Please make these payments as soon as possible, or contact the school to discuss alternative arrangements.

Our planned Parents' Evening is on Wednesday 1 April 2020 at 7pm.

The Brunton in Musselburgh is running a Musical Theatre Easter School in partnership with Tommie Travers. Following last year’s sell-out Fringe production of Oliver! there has been a real demand for similar experiences.

The Easter School is open to 8 - 16 year olds, and runs from Sunday 5 2020 - Thursday 9 April 2020, culminating in a Showcase Performance on the Thursday evening at The Brunton. The experience focuses on a variety of musical theatre songs which will be performed in the showcase. As the children learn these songs under the guidance of a professional team, they will develop vocal techniques, have the opportunity to learn dance routines and also take part in fun drama games which build confidence.

The cost to participate is £120, and tickets for the Showcase Performance will be £10 adult, £9 child, £34 family of 4.

Book your space now, or for more information please email The Brunton Easter School.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Eco-Committee is running a clothing collection for Rock Trust, a charitable organisation that works with young people aged 16 to 25 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Rock Trust provides useful services like one-to-one support, group programmes, employability training, and volunteering/work experience opportunities. To help young people, Rock Trust also provides supplies like clothing.

We're collecting donations of clean clothes in good condition (ages 16-25/sizes 8-20) from March 9 to 20 - that's two whole weeks! And this comes at a great time because you might be doing some spring cleaning at home and realize that in the depths of your closet, you have a lot of clothes you rarely wear! Rather than send those clothes to landfill, let's put them toward a good cause! Clothing donations can be brought to Miss Laudi's room. We look forward to seeing the Knox community come together for another good cause!

The Eco-Committee's theme for Eco-Week this year is Food & Climate Change. Specifically, we want everyone to understand how our eating habits have an impact on the environment and climate change. Meat consumption and livestock agriculture are significant causes of deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. As such, adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet - even a few days a week - can make a difference. The Eco-Committee will be sharing vegan recipes each day this week and our first one is fantastic: vegan chocolate chip cookies! We promise they're delicious and easy to make! Here's the link:
