Aimed to provide students with insights into the medical and dental fields, our Virtual Work Experience Programme allows students to gain key insights into various medical and dental pathways, as well as make informed decisions about their future. During the Get Into Medicine/Dentistry Conference, Dr Kennedy, Dr Safiyyah and Dr Siva will guide students through the importance of effective work experiences.

Students and parents can register for free at these links:

In addition, By attending a Free LIVE Virtual Get Into Conference and completing the free virtual work experience programme, students will also receive a 'Highly Commended' reference from the Presidents at Medic Mentor. This reference is a powerful addition to boost your medical school applications and C.V. It can be proudly listed on your UCAS application under the section for ‘conferences you have attended which have prepared you for higher education’.

Students and parents/guardians can register for free here:

We are looking for volunteers to become Achievement Tie Committee members from all year groups.  Committee members will make decisions on who or what qualifies for an Achievement Ties award.  This is a great opportunity and is something you can add to your experiences and will be useful in applying for other positions or jobs in the future.  Taking part will demonstrate communication skills as you will share your opinions with others; it will also demonstrate you go above and beyond by contributing to the wider school community.   The role will be quite straight forward and mainly involves you making and sharing your decisions on individual applications (these are redacted before you see them).

If you can participate please come and see Mr Clark in Room M8 on Monday Lunchtime at 13:15 (2 December 2024).  If you are unable to attend then please email: aclark1@edubuzz.org or drop early next week and speak with me.

If you've previously been involved please confirm you are still willing to be part of the committee and know what you are doing and I can ensure you continue on the list of pupils involved.

The changing room corridor in PE has been 'open' at break and lunch for a few months allowing pupils to access toilets and the playing fields out the back.  Unfortunately, the rubbish being left and pupils misuse of the fire exit door (propping it open) at the end of the corridor has meant that we are no longer allowing pupils to use this space.  Please DO NOT try to access the corridor at break or lunch (unless you are attending a lunchtime sports club).  Furthermore, PE staff will no longer be lending football/rugby/basketball's at lunchtime due to the amount of equipment that has been 'lost'.

Secondly, movement through PE in between classes.  Unless you have PE you should NOT be entering the corridor at the bottom of the science stairs (Rosehall door) or at the bottom of the business corridor (near social area).  Using the corridor to cut through to get to other areas of the building causes major blockage and disruption as PE staff are trying to register their classes outside of the small gym and in the glass corridor opposite the nursery, whilst pupils are pushing past to get elsewhere.  If you are caught doing this you will be sent back the way you came - so avoid PE unless you have it!

Finally, during exam time - if you register with Ms Borwick or Mrs Leighton you will notice the social area is off limits.  Ms Borwick will register you outside of the changing rooms.  Mrs Leighton will register you at the bottom end of the glass corridor (near Mrs McSherry's class).

  • Have a think about using the website to identify jobs you can do with subjects you like.
  • Or, if you know what you would like to do, use the site to identify what subjects you could take.
  • SOME KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER:

We are not choosing subjects when we meet.

Don't be concerned if you don't know that you want to do in the future. There will be lots of support to help you decide over the next few years.

Careers are JUST ONE THING to think about when choosing subjects.

Monday 11 November marks the first day of Anti-Bullying week 2024. The theme this year is 'Respect - What Does it Mean to You?'

Respectful relationships are extremely powerful in preventing and even stopping bullying. But what does that look like?

This week we would like our registration classes to watch the following videos and have a discussion around what respect looks, sounds and feels like.

Video 1 (Celebrities discussing respect)

More interesting videos:  (Video 1 'what can I do' and video 3 'respect means').

Consider:

  • What does a respectful relationship look like?
  • Do we need to like the same things, or agree on subjects in order to respect each other?
  • What examples of disrespect have you seen in the school community?
  • What examples of respect have you seen in the school community?
