Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a Rotary International project with a proven record of personal development and leadership for young people. RYLA gives young people the opportunity to expand their horizons by developing leadership skills, increasing self-confidence, in addition to obtaining new skills and developing old ones, and returning a young person with enhanced attributes to benefit their current or future employer. Participants learn to work effectively as part of a team, discover the benefits of delegation, discover unexplored individual skills and work to tight deadlines. The week is designed to take the delegates out of their individual comfort zones, to recognise and develop them as individuals and team leaders, and each day finishing with an individual and team review.
The week-long project takes place in July 2022. 17-22 July is for girls; 22-27 July is for boys. This a great opportunity. If you are interested, please see Mr Flood.
This year 2022/23 there is a plan to put out an issue of the school magazine. As part of this we are looking for any pupils (all year groups) who would like to contribute as the magazine. While being edited by a team this is being produced for pupils and staff. The magazine is being run by S6 pupils who will contribute their own content also. If you do wish to get involved then we would like you to submit a short piece. Topics/articles can be wide ranging and the possible suggestions list below is not exhaustive. Some articles may even be quite small so please do not feel you have to write masses.
Article/page ideas could include: A short story you’ve written, a review of a film, a celebrity or band profile, a cartoon, a collection of photographs, a summary of a topic of your choice, a favorite recipe, top 5 pupil gadgets, a 2 sided debate, an interview with someone in the community or anything you are passionate about.
Please come and speak with Mr Clark if you are interested. If you complete something you can send it directly to me here: aclark1@edubuzz.org.uk
If there are any staff who have any experience in magazine editing who may be willing to offer any advice to the team please contact Mr Clark.
The Head Pupil Question Time will take place on Wednesday 29 June, Periods 4 and 5.

If you enjoy Manga or would like to know more about it, we have an exciting day planned on Wednesday 22 June 2022, as the school has signed up for MANGA IMMERSION DAY, which will take place (online) in the library.
Sessions for pupils are at 11.10 am and 1.10 pm (bring a packed lunch). Manga has become very popular and it's a great opportunity to find out more about it from author Julian Sedgwick and Manga-creator/illustrator Chie Kutsuwada. We'll be hearing about their collaboration on Tsunami Girl (shortlisted for this year's Carnegie Award, and available to borrow from the school library), and there will be a MANGA DRAWING workshop too.
Details of the event can be found online.
